This one is tough. Well, maybe not really so tough. The context really requires "remain" here.

But the fact that I thought I heard "..d opposed to" confused me. The "...d" sound is actually the sound linking the last syllable of "reemain" and the first syllable of "opposed", i.e. "..n-o.." sound.
