5 t+ n* E, F: V2 y+ y1 c; p9 \) Q: O2 x: p
town:
% e: h! }4 v- V% C& cchief town or city of an area; (in England) London
Mr Green is not in town/is out of town.
) N& q" V+ f, QHe went up to town this morning.
7 J, e" i9 R) LShe's spending the weekend in town. 8 K0 L/ H( {) n8 H! Y
其他辞书也有好几个收了这个意思的,比如Collins(注意不是Collins Cobuild):
- b! v3 x s3 i! ?. n( S7 g0 ]8 w! T0 x
town:London or the chief city of an area
. j/ l9 w$ O; @/ [! @( \; J8 }, r' E7 ^! W5 Y& j
8 t5 a/ n+ q/ \5 D: a: R- ]% c7 x" c
% { R) w- S5 w% j1 o3 j' M/ X: g* S a) Z3 _# G; ^1 r
OED说:
4 G8 `6 e: i2 o- j. ]
% B0 d; l5 t% P; y% {' GWithout article, chiefly after a preposition or verb. The particular town under consideration, the town nearest to the speaker, or in which the speaker is currently located; the chief town of a region, spec. (in England since c1700) London, as the principal town of (southern) England. Now also: the central part of a town or city, esp. that which forms the main business, shopping, or entertainment district. + D2 |# ?2 e* J% S6 X
回到「She's always lamenting the lack of sports facilities in town. |
