d$ x: r {7 X. `, A2 ]" [
* V( g u) k3 y* n x! T& \- u
mountain in OALD 8
$ K4 M6 D+ @1 A8 k a+ D~ of sth (informal) a very large amount or number of sth 许多;大量
6 E T7 i( k e, \, ]- o$ S5 V \◆ a mountain of work 大量的工作
8 o' [% e( x3 G4 W+ P4 u◆ We made mountains of sandwiches. d9 t- b2 A. u. u" g8 e. I3 S$ p
◆ the problem of Europe's butter mountain (= the large amount of butter that has to be stored because it is not needed) 欧洲的黄油过剩问题 ' W/ D0 k0 Z# ^( H, q" W& a
* W; x# f6 |) ^4 E/ M5 ~$ B4 P
5 V6 ~* N1 B5 \% l8 T! R
sea in OALD 8; k7 Z" D+ i3 e, L( E6 p
[sing.]~ of sth a large amount of sth that stretches over a wide area 大量;茫茫一片6 o: J# M9 a+ J& ~! s1 K" k
◆ He looked down at the sea of smiling faces before him. 1 v& Z9 e& u! P5 q7 X, @4 I
[count noun] figurative a vast expanse or quantity of something 〈喻〉广大; 众多 ——《新牛津》 [N-SING 单数名词] 大量;茫茫一片;A sea of people or things is a very large number of them together. ——《柯林斯》 sea of sth: a very large number of people or things that look all similar 大量某物,一大片某物 ——《朗文》 a sea of sth: a large amount or number of something 很多;大量 ——《剑桥》 贴主注:和《牛八》mountain 的英文解释差一个 very。# b/ O! D+ Y) l9 r+ t, g
Figurative. an overwhelming amount or number —— World Book something likened to the sea especially in vastness ——《韦氏》 贴主注:韦氏好像跟其他家就是不太一样哦,哈哈。( n. C$ F6 ~' `/ Q$ o) V
A vast or overwhelming quantity or mass (of); a large level tract or expanse (of some material substance or aggregate of objects). ——《
# P5 q- _& ]- D, q8 ]在 Longman Collocations Dictionary and Thesaurus 当中写道:

You use quantity about things you can measure or count:

% C* o2 N0 I8 o6 O# x; \
在Collins Thesaurus of the English Language 当中写道:9 N n. a2 b3 _+ Z" ^$ I7 Y
Although it is common to use a plural noun after amount of, for example in the amount of people and the amount of goods, this should be avoided. Preferred alternatives would be to use quantity, as in the quantity of people, or number, as in the number of goods. 2 P: [( ?4 _. Y$ c$ I
