Robert Allen is an experienced lexicographer and writer on language, now working from Edinburgh. As a freelance writer and editor he has been a consultant for a number of major publishing houses. He has written an updated version of Fowler's Modern English Usage and writes articles on the modern use of English in English Today and other journals.
