Eighth Edition (1990): The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Current English, first edited by H. W. Fowler and F. G. Fowler was edited by Robert E. Allen. Being computer-based, this edition changed the original structure to a large extent.
Ninth Edition (1995) was edited by Della Thompson.
Tenth Edition (1999, revised 2001) became The Concise Oxford English Dictionary. It was edited by Judy Pearsall. Rather than being a direct revision of the ninth edition, it was based on the larger New Oxford Dictionary of English (1998), which Pearsall had edited. Its compilation had involved a re-analysis of much of the core vocabulary using the British National Corpus. The tenth edition was also issued as an electronic resource, as a computer optical disc.

而是相当于Pocket Oxford English Dictionary的内容，然后Pocket Oxford American Dictionary and Thesaurus解释不变，继续删减了词源、辨析和若干词条。。

" p$ d. m9 {( s0 n, @* I" V! F8 ?/ i不过给我这种英语水平一般的人当主力词典很倒是合适，收词太多解释太难都不好，最好有词源和同义词，语法标注可有可无。

经查证，DK这本书的蓝本是The Oxford Compact English Dictionary，比COD9要差一点。这样一来COD9几无衍生产品。

本词典自问世以来，一直受到词典界的重视。以中小型词典的篇幅，大词典的内容著称。短语、成语、例证等非常丰富，超过Webster词典。Fowler的特色到了第七版达到顶峰。八版以后，渐受美国词典的影响，例证等减少。到了第10版，更是成了新牛津的简本，例证全部删掉。昔日风采不再。最期待是有第七版的电子版。

最近刚发现，这个Complete Wordfinder的版本是有玄机的。

1993版，有17个附录，第17个附录叫Language guide，有64页，正文来到1892页。
7 w3 }7 Y. A# K2 L$ t+ v/ f. w
: _% G* L6 n9 L4 g1996版，16个附录，正文1828页。

& G$ s/ Q; C. O美版2003版直接将第17个附录当卖点了，请看封面右下角：

要尽量避免购买到1828页的版本。

等于COD8+大量附录+The Oxford Thesaurus：American Edition （书号：0195073541）-  Thesaurus 部分的例句。

不过从使用角度讲，个人还是更推荐ODE或者NOAD+一本对应的 Thesaurus。
