) v2 e' x, T+ r' F! 例如2018年专四真题PART III LANGUAGE USAGE的11题如下:/ m9 d" E: |# N0 v, m- A
The Bent Pyramid outside Cario ______ ancient Egypt’s first attempt to build a smooth-side pyramid.
- o9 u+ ^6 j2 }# @9 HA. has been believed to have been; f( ]( Q; s6 g" a8 B% s, @
B. was believed to be0 e% g8 [3 y& f2 `( L
C. is believed to have been
. Y& t# l* Q4 G3 h' U; w/ CD. is believed to be
( a B6 t' q/ b" O- ~6 g
Like many multiple-choice questions, a poor range of answers. You're right that D is just as good as C. The extra perfect tense doesn't add anything: it doesn't put it further back in time, or anything like that. We could say either. (entangledbank, London)。这或许可以给答主提供一些参考意见。

# m# y# a" T$ p5 v$ [ l) Y" M4 R0 F
Anteriority expressed by the perfect when the preterite not available的一个小节下面提到了下面这样的对应:
8 \. a- v" t) o. FHe died in 1806. ~ He is believed to have died in 1806. (CaGEL, p159)$ M/ j; S8 q( P
7 b8 O2 n7 a$ [5 L" p |*He dies in 1806. ~ *He is believed to die in 1806.
% d- l8 g# p4 r3 h- v1 ~+ } |, P- H" i2 ~6 G' P
6 |& a7 p* ]/ j. W4 [首先我们看看It <is>/<was> ancient Egypt’s first attempt to build a smooth-side pyramid. 如果是按照上面出题人的逻辑,这里是非用was不可的,对应过来就是is believed to have been。 Brahms is/was the last great representative of German classicism. (CGEL, p182)就明确标记的is/was都可以。既然It is ancient Egypt’s first attempt to build a smooth-side pyramid. It is believed to be ancient Egypt’s first attempt to build a smooth-side pyramid. It is the rose which inspired the song. It is believed to be the rose which inspired the song.了。 Q8 a* W' S+ \4 `* p+ U7 Q3 F
+ ?0 h" d n3 M) c' S换句话说:
' `+ M- T7 e1 [It is the rose which inspired the song. ~ It is believed to be the rose which inspired the song.6 n6 j' F8 e6 _ `
It was the rose which inspired the song. ~ It is believed to have been the rose which inspired the song.
1 ~; F1 }& R/ ?4 ]7 v) [. z9 q1 B5 \5 f" Y
