Many cultures still place a high value on a woman retaining her virginity until marriage. In recent years, that's led to a boom in a type of cosmetic surgery that attempts to repair or re-create the hymen, the thin piece of skin that partially covers the entrance of the vagina. Now the UK government has announced plans to criminalise that procedure, described as an honour crime by campaigners, along with virginity testing. Here's our correspondent, Raghi Sandue.
In some communities, women and girls are under pressure to remain a virgin until marriage, with the expectation they should bleed after having sex for the first time. It's led to some seeking out ways to repair their hymen ( ____ hymens?) in a cosmetic procedure called hymenoplasty.

是这样的。我从今年3月左右开始追BBC全球新闻。每天等站长更新。
所有最新的更新听完了，我就往前听。到今天为止24号的更新了，25日的还没更新，我就听前面的，前追到了1月26日。今天听的是25，24了。
这节奏和我之前听彭蒙惠英语是一样的。我听完了最新的，就翻到以前的节目去听。彭蒙惠我听了十几年哦。不过听BBC比彭蒙惠可过瘾多了。

I have totally forgotten which one it was. It must've been one of them. I usually delete the file once I have finished it. But I'll extract sentences containing useful or fun words/expressions for later reviews, sometimes a whole story such as this "hymenoplasty" one.

It's a good question.
What may sound funny is, I weaned myself off Chinese captions soon after I finished Peter Lai (Lai Shi Xiong)'s Advanced American English, to which I listened for 3 years. Then I moved to English Digest, another Taiwan-based English radio programme, of which I didn't have the text files. But it was worth it - words stick in mind deeper when great effort is applied to figure them out. But I have always been lucky because I have very nice foreign friends who would come to my rescue (on WeChat) if/when I couldn't nail the mysterious words myself.
If it works for me, I am sure it'll work for you, too. After all, "what is good for the goose is good for the gander."
